Ministry Area: As Director of Missions and Social Outreach my job entails educating the congregation about mission and providing opportunities for them to be in mission. I believe “missions” should be a way of life, not just something one does occasionally. I also believe missions is vital in not only our own backyard (Wichita) but also in God’s backyard (the world). At First Church we strive to reach out with the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters in need wherever they might be.
Brief Bio: I was born in Texas, raised in Ohio but returned to Texas for two degrees. I have an undergraduate degree from the Univ. of Texas and a Masters in “Management for Low Income Populations” from North Texas State. I have been on staff at First Church since 1989 and love developing compassionate ministries and listening together to God as he says “This is My World. Touch its wounds. Heal its injustice. Love it for me,” and then going out into the world and doing just that.
Family: My husband and I have been married 40 years. We met at an amusement park where we both worked in live shows – I was a dancer and he was a green dog that walked around the park! We have 3 grown sons and 3 grandchildren.
Interests: I love outdoor activities – biking, camping, canoeing, backpacking. And I still love dancing, particularly tap dancing.
A Favorite Bible Verse: Romans 12:9-13
“Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit. Serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and practice hospitality.”
