During the season of Lent, we are asked to give sacrificially as Jesus gave his life sacrificially for us. One way to do so is to give offerings above and beyond the normal offering given each month or week. The Great Plains United Methodist Conference has a 1% apportionment that provides Special Agency Support for Colleges, Health and Welfare Institutions and Ministries with the Poor. The agencies supported are not covered by the regular 10% apportionment that First United Methodist Church remits to the Conference.

The agencies included on the list are:

• Saint Paul School of Theology in Leawood, Kansas

• Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas

• Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska

• Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas

• Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas

• Asbury Park (Good Samaritan Fund) in Newton, Kansas

• UM Homes- Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas

• GraceMed Health Clinic in Wichita, Kansas

• EmberHope in Kansas

• Tyree Health and Dental Clinic in Wichita, Kansas

• United Methodist Open Door in Wichita, Kansas

• Genesis Family Health (United Methodist Mexican-American Ministries) in Kansas

• Released & Restored in Nebraska

• Epworth Village in York, Nebraska

• United Methodist Ministries in Omaha, Nebraska

• Justice for Our Neighbors in Nebraska

• Friendship House of Hope in Ogden, Kansas

• Wesley House in Pittsburg, Kansas

• Faith & Fellowship in Topeka, Kansas

• Living Hope UMC in Omaha, Nebraska

• Rural Response Hotline in Nebraska

A special Lenten offering to support these important ministries will occur on March 11, 18, 25, and April 1, 2018. The mission provided to children, youth, college students and seniors can make a real difference in their lives through the outreach provided by people like you and me. Our goal is to raise $6000 to underwrite these ministries. Each one of these agencies are enabled to do ministry in our name and in the United Methodist Church because all of us across Nebraska and Kansas are prayerfully supporting them. Please include these ministries in your prayers and through a special Lenten gift. Checks should be made payable to First United Methodist Church with a note that the donation is for the 1% apportionment. Thank you in advance for making this possible.
