The Gathering Update

The Gathering at Mead’s Corner will continue! Of course, in the wake of Mead’s Corner closing, we will no longer be meeting at Mead’s Corner. Instead, we will be forging forward in a new partnership with New Covenant UMC in their Life Support Center at 1718 W. Douglas in Delano. New Covenant UMC has been working directly with marginalized persons in our community while in partnership with other UMC churches (as well as other organizations), and we hope to offer them some energy and opportunity in exchange for a home outside of our doors...

20th Anniversary Celebration Concert

The sanctuary organ at First Church is the largest pipe organ in the state of Kansas with nearly 6,000 pipes. The pipes range in size from the size of a pencil to 34 feet in length. The 1961 Sanctuary at First Church featured a Moller organ installed in 1962. In 1998 the Schantz organ company built a new organ for the Sanctuary and incorporated some of the pipes from the previous Moller organ. This year marks 20 years of what has proven to be an exciting instrument heard weekly for worship services and on the First Church televised worship...

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor” For decades, Mister Rogers was the quintessential neighbor. When he was interviewed about his opening song he said, “Won’t you be my neighbor? Well, I suppose it’s an invitation. John Wesley said, “the world is my parish”. Maybe that is another way of saying the world...

School Supply Drive

School Supply Drive Store shelves are loaded with school supplies just waiting to be purchased!  However, many of our neighborhood families with children who attend Park Elementary, our partnership school, cannot afford the supplies requested.  In families with several children, this becomes an overwhelming financial burden. This year the list has been scaled down to a few specific supplies especially needed: backpacks, EXPO markers, colored pencils, Kleenex tissues, zip-lock type bags of all sizes and disinfectant wipes. Financial...
