As I grew older there was camp, both Girl Scout and church camps, bell choir and The Free tours. Summer was a time to be savored, school was out, the...

Mead’s Corner Statement

For nearly ten years, First United Methodist Church has operated Mead’s Corner Coffeehouse at 430 E. Douglas. The lease for Mead’s Corner expires at the end of August. On behalf of the Church, the Board of Trustees was in contact with the Landlord’s leasing agent regarding the terms of a new lease. We received a proposal from the Landlord that included a significant increase in rent. After considerable discussion of the Landlord’s proposal, the Church Council concluded that the cost of renewing the lease would be too high and that the...

Congratulations Confirmands

We are excited to welcome the newest professing members of First Church!  The Confirmation class  lead worship at Downtown Alive on November 12.  Six youth took vows of membership and made professions of faith! Confirmation is a journey of faith to learn more about God and the church in order to become an adult member of the church.  However, we believe that Confirmation is much more than just joining the church. Students met this fall to examine their relationship with God in a variety of ways. There time was spent exploring scripture and...

Agape Redeemed Church of All Nations

You are likely to see new faces in colorful East African attire in and around the Chapel on Sunday mornings as we welcome a new group of Christians to our building. The Agape Redeemed Church of All Nations (ARC) worships in the First Church Chapel at 11:30 a.m. each Sunday.  As most of the church members are refugees from Africa, the service is in both English and Swahili. Many in this group have escaped war and destruction in their homeland and now live and are employed in Wichita. Their pastor, Rosemary Njoroge, is an immigrant from...
