Ash Wednesday Services March 6

“Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”   UMC.org

This year First Church will be holding two worship services throughout the day.  Please look over the options and find a time that best fits your schedule.  Our hope is that everyone is able to carve space this Ash Wednesday to begin the season of Lent in a time of reflection, preparation and renewal.

12:15 p.m. Service- Chapel

We will be breaking in the middle of our work day for a time of reflection, prayer, and imposition of ashes.  This will be a moment in the very center of our work week where we can stop, reflect, and remember we are dust and to dust we shall return.

7:00 p.m. Service- First Church Sanctuary

Our 7:00 p.m. service will be held in the First Church Sanctuary and will include scripture readings, music as well as a short message. There will also be a time of reflection & the imposition of the ashes assisted by members of our community.

We truly hope you will consider taking this evening as a night to begin the walk, together to the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
